Shooting in Manual Mode Meetup

Shooting in Manual Mode Meetup

Saturday 21 September
Frankfort, KY - 10am - 2 Hours
Lexington Photography Group
Richard O'Brien
Do you like taking photos of waterfalls and landscape using your camera? This park in Frankfort has lots of Landscape, two foot bridges, 1 small waterfall, and one large waterfall. The small waterfall leads into the long creek that continues under two footbridges. I'm sure you'll take fantastic photos of the landscape, the long creek, and both the small and large waterfall. I'll take you out of "auto" mode and right into Manual ModeRAW Setting for super, jaw-dropping photos. In addition, I'll also show you how to shoot the running water in slow shutter speed resulting in "curtain" mode. Of course, you may shoot photos in any Manual setting you are comfortable with. Shooting in RAW does allow all of the data to enter the sensor, allowing for fantastic composition and fabulous color. All skill levels are invited to attend this meetup. The photography triangle will be discussed and a photography challenge will be presented. Questions and discussion is always welcome. Free parking is available.

Nature Photography Meetup

Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 05 October
Raven Run Way - 10am - 2 Hours
Lexington Photography Group
Steven Edger
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

Note: This is not a beginner's class.

I wanted to experiment with alcohol inks because I love the bright colors they produce and the way the inks work together. This is one of my first artworks with this medium and was a great diversion during my spring break!

This area of Lexington is one of my favorite areas of the city. Especially during the winter time. I love the architecture of this area and this Church always catches my eye when driving through Gratz Park. I'm working on a series capturing the city of Lexington where I was raised and am certain to include more of the Gratz Park area.

Sergio Mendes , one of my favorite musicians and composer of the Disney movie Rio, died last week of Long COVID complications. I dedicate this piece to every victim of COVID. The ones that lost their lives and the ones that lost their health (including myself). I also dedicate to the Spix Macaw that is long gone because of human greed. sergiomendes you will be missed!

In this painting I wanted to convey the intensity of the fox's stare - that something has caught his eye and he is standing perfectly still watching it! I am always intrigued with how light hits a subject - this is why I love using oil paints as you can get such a depth of colour (I layer up the colours) and then the last few brushstrokes are the highlights and that is when the magic happens!

This is Lucy, one of our favorite family dogs. She is the sweetest pooch and loves to ride in the car, windows opened. She is in her glory as her ears catch the wind and almost smiles. I tried to capture her wonderful nature in this watercolor painting. I used very heavy pigment to give detail to her fur. I so love the many styles watercolor allows you to create. It is one of my favorite paintings because, I Love Lucy:)
