Portrait Photography Meetup

Portrait Photography Meetup

Saturday 20 September
Frankfort, KY - 12pm - 2 Hours
Lexington Photography Group
Richard O'Brien
Are you new to portrait photography? Would you like to learn how to take photos of others resulting in a stunning composition? Let me show you how to set up your camera using the photography triangle as I explain how this tool can be very valuable so you can photograph others resulting in a “wow” factor reaction. It is important to know during this “Portrait Photograph Meetup” you will be posing and taking photos of each other. Not only will you be having fun and practicing taking portraits, the skills and methods learned during this meetup will make it all that much fun. An off-camera flash (and a diffuser if you have one) is recommended; the necessity for this will be discussed during the meetup. Think of the fun you will have when you learn the fundamentals of taking photos of friends and family. A photography challenge will be presented and as stated above, the Photography Triangle will be discussed and implemented. Questions and discussion are always welcome.

Note: Smartphones are allowed for those who don't have a camera.

I wanted to experiment with alcohol inks because I love the bright colors they produce and the way the inks work together. This is one of my first artworks with this medium and was a great diversion during my spring break!

Title or Location: Gratz Park Winter
This area of Lexington is one of my favorite areas of the city. Especially during the winter time. I love the architecture of this area and this Church always catches my eye when driving through Gratz Park. I'm working on a series capturing the city of Lexington where I was raised and am certain to include more of the Gratz Park area.

36?x40? Acrylic on stretched canvas.?Trauma? is a self portrait reflecting the emotional turmoil of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD). I am a 58 year old artist from Portland, Oregon and was diagnosed with CPTSD in 2020. Looking back I am a textbook case, I was raised in a home with a very violent mother and a father who chose to remain blissfully unaware. The violence included being held by my ankles and hung over a gravel driveway from a 2nd floor porch, to beatings on
